What is Natural Glam Makeup?

If you keep up with makeup trends, or even if you don’t, chances are you’ve heard about a makeup style that has been all the rage lately. What is it? It’s Natural Glam! Before we dive in and I share with you all of the absolute best products to get a natural glam makeup look for oily skin, (and on a budget!), let me tell you exactly what natural glam makeup really is.

Natural Glam makeup is actually super simple and pretty self-explanatory; it’s glam makeup done naturally. How easy? If I had to describe exactly what natural glam makeup is: it is a soft makeup look where your skin looks radiant and natural, your eyes barely have any product on them yet are accentuated, and your lips have a nice sheer glow on them as well. Basically, it makes it look as though you don’t really have any makeup on (even though you do!), and it highlights the natural features of your face rather than completely covering everything up.

The Power of Skin Types

Before we get into the best products ever to achieve a gorgeous natural glam makeup look, I just need to tell you one more thing, I promise! When choosing makeup products that will give you your desired look, it is very important to keep something in mind. What could that be? It’s your skin type! The reason for choosing your makeup according to your skin type is so important, is actually very simple. Since I have oily skin, my skin produces tons of oils throughout the day which can make my face look like a shiny oil slick. Thus, all of my products would literally look like they’re melting right off of my face and I would just have to keep blotting throughout the day to fix it. Not fun!

Although my oily skin gets better in the colder months, even though it can’t get too cold in Florida, it still stays very oily throughout the year. So, when I began my makeup journey and my passion for makeup grew, I quickly realized that it’s very important to pick products that will help keep my oils at bay, all while still giving me a gorgeous radiant look to my skin.

Natural Glam Makeup For Oily Skin Recommendations

In this post, I’ll share with you guys all of my favorite products to achieve a natural glam makeup look, all while having oily skin, and the best part of all is that it won’t break the bank because the products are all on a budget. Let’s get into it!

1) Primer

The first step in my makeup routine for as long as I can remember has always been primer. I didn’t always think that primer was necessary, but that was only because I didn’t know which one I had to use. Primer is that step in your routine that really makes sure that your skin looks flawless throughout the day, and it also extends the longevity of your makeup. Since I have super oily skin, I typically look for a primer that will grip my makeup onto my skin without slipping, give me a shine free-finish, and help balance my oils throughout the day. Seems like I’m looking for a lot of things from just a primer, but I actually found some holy grails that do all of those things and more!

One of my favorite primers is the Hard Candy Hydrating Makeup Grip Primer. When I tell you this product is stunning, I really mean that it’s STUNNING. I’ve tried out the Milk Makeup HydroGrip Primer and I feel like this Hard Candy one is almost identical, all for a fraction of the cost! This primer is super lightweight and works great to really grip my foundation onto my skin, all while still giving me a hydrating finish.

The other primer that has been my go-to ever since the day it came out is the Elf Matte Putty Primer. The Elf primer is the primer that I love the most because it is literally perfection. I typically apply the putty primer to my t-zone (cheeks and forehead) and it works great to really make sure that my makeup stays in place and doesn’t get oily throughout the day. If you have oily skin, the Elf Matte Putty Primer is an absolute MUST!

2) Foundation

When it comes to Natural Glam makeup, the goal is to have your foundation really give you the “your skin but better” vibe. You don’t really want something super heavy and thick, rather, a foundation that will really even your skin tone with a natural finish. Throughout the years, I’ve used many drugstore foundations and I have really found some gems.

One of my favorite foundations at the drugstore is the L’Oreal FreshWear 24 hour foundation. This foundation is seriously so perfect and it works great with my oily skin. The product doesn’t get too oily or shiny, it doesn’t have a flat matte finish, and it really looks like a second layer of skin when applied.

My other holy grail foundation-like product that I have not been able to put down lately is the Maybelline BB Cream. I am seriously head over heels in love with that BB Cream for so many reasons. Although the product is a BB Cream, it still has a good amount of coverage in it so that it can really even out your skin. However, my favorite thing about the product is how natural the finish looks on the skin. Even though it adds coverage and evens out my skin tone, it still somehow manages to look like I literally have no makeup on at all which is exactly what I’m going for when I am doing a Natural Glam Makeup look!

3) Blush

After I apply my foundation, I typically reach for a powder to set in all places. However, a few months ago I added a new product into my routine that literally changed my life! As I’m sure you’ve seen at least somewhere on the Internet, Selena Gomez launched her own makeup line, Rare Beauty. At first, none of the products really called out to me, that is until I saw the liquid blush. I’ve always wanted to use a liquid blush because I’m obsessed with the flush of natural color that it gives your face. But, since I have oily skin, I’ve always kind of veered away from the idea of liquid blush all because of the fear that it would just slip off my face and not really last throughout the day. I purchased the Rare Beauty liquid blush in the shade “Bliss” which is a soft pink nude matte shade and, let me tell you, I haven’t been able to put it down since I first gave it a shot.

Since this product is a liquid, I have to apply it directly over my foundation to ensure that it all blends seamlessly.

As a rule of thumb, when applying makeup, creams go with creams and powders go with powders. This means that if you want to apply a liquid product on your skin, it should only be placed on top of other liquids to avoid a huge mess. If you have oily skin like me, or just want to set the product in place, go in with your powder once your routine has no more liquids.

The product blends like an actual dream on the skin, it looks natural with a hint of color on your skin, and it also lasts so long; even on my oily skin! Although this product isn’t exactly drugstore pricing, I just had to include this product because I finally found a liquid blush that works for my oily skin type, making it absolutely essential in my natural glam makeup routine.

4) Powder

As someone with oily skin, this next step is never negotiable in my makeup routine! I could apply a matte primer and a matte foundation, and somehow still end up with oily skin a few hours into my day. To make sure that doesn’t happen, I always set my foundation in place with a setting powder; either a loose powder or a pressed powder.

When it comes to my favorite setting powder, it would have to be the Wet N Wild Loose Setting Powder. The powder is super lightweight and it does such a great job at really setting your foundation in place, blurring the skin, and giving an overall airbrushed finish to make your base complete for your natural glam makeup look!

If you’re not a fan of loose powders and think they may be too messy, my favorite pressed powder to really give me that soft glam finish and to do everything that a loose powder does, is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Pressed Powder. It’s super lightweight and works so great at keeping all of my oils at bay throughout the day.

5) Bronzer

Once my base is finally complete, it’s time for some bronzer to bring the warmth back to my skin. When it comes to bronzer, I typically like to go for one that has a matte finish since it looks more natural on the skin. One of the defining features of a natural glam makeup look would have to be the fact that you have makeup on without the “makeup” look. That is exactly why I look for a bronzer that will really warm up my complexion, yet, it won’t look over-done.

One of my favorite bronzers ever since the second I first tried it is the Maybelline City Bronzer. I’ve always had a hard time finding a bronzer that really looks super natural on my skin, without giving me any orange undertones. That is until I tried this bronzer out. The City Bronzer literally has the perfect undertone to add some natural warmth to my skin, all while being super easy to blend into the skin and buildable. It’s seriously so perfect! In my opinion, it is a pretty close dupe to the Fenty Beauty Powder Bronzer, all at a fraction of the price!

6) Highlight

The final step in my face makeup routine, and my favorite step of them all, is highlight. I am seriously such a sucker for all things shiny, hence why I’m just obsessed with highlighters. What defines a natural glam makeup look, in my opinion, is accentuating and highlighting the features of your face/skin, and having a nice healthy radiant glow as well. When it comes to highlighter, you can definitely pick something that’s either more natural for a lit-from-within look or you can also choose a highlight that will really be wham-bam in your face; it’s all your personal preference. When it comes to my natural glam makeup look, I typically like to go for a happy medium between the two finishes.

The highlighter that really gives me what I need is the Maybelline Master Chrome highlighter. This highlight is seriously such a game-changer and can rival many of the highlighters available at the high-end makeup retailers; it’s that good! One of the best things about this product is that it can really be applied with a light hand for more of a soft glow, it can be built up for a more intense look, it is easy to blend, and it’s a product that doesn’t emphasize texture on your skin. When it comes to a natural glam makeup look, I personally prefer applying the highlight on my cheekbones, the tip of my nose, and even a little bit over my eyebrow on my forehead for a radiant glow and finish to my skin.

And now, my friends, your face makeup for a natural glam makeup look is complete! To really glam it up, you can also pop a bit of your bronzer onto your eye and crease for a super simple eye look. To turn it up even further, add one of your favorite glitter eyeshadows or glitter eyeshadow toppers to your eyelid to really bring out the “glam” in your natural glam makeup look.

And last but not least, a look wouldn’t be complete without adding the finishing touches with a lip product. As I mentioned earlier, I feel like a natural glam makeup look is really defined by having shiny, juicy looking, slightly tinted lips; all while making it seem as though you’re not trying too hard and have an effortless glam.

My favorite lip products at the drugstore that work wonders for my lips and complete every look are the ELF Ride or Die lip balms; specifically in the shade “tough cookie”. This product adds a super subtle hint of color to my lips, lasts for a very long time, and also moisturizes my lips throughout the day; a total win!
