These past few months have definitely been scary for all of us, no matter where we are. Instead of life just snapping back to how it was, we’re all adapting to a new type of normal. What’s included in that normal? Many different things, including one of the most prevalent, masks! (“How to Wear Makeup with Face Mask.”)
Although makeup isn’t a necessity these days whatsoever, I’ve found that doing my makeup and getting at least a little dolled up makes me feel a tiny bit better about everything and it brings me so much happiness. However, one huge factor to consider before going somewhere with makeup, is the face mask…

“…because the lines on the sides of my face and the makeup-free circle on my nose was just too embarrassing.”
After going out a few times with makeup and a mask, I knew something in my makeup routine just HAD to be adjusted because the lines on the sides of my face and the makeup-free circle on my nose was just too embarrassing.
After many hits and misses, I feel like I’ve finally settled on a routine that’s been completely mask proof, even with my oily skin in the Florida heat!! One thing I want to mention is that even though I’m a complete makeup junkie and full glam believer, I’ve been feeling more of a natural vibe with my makeup because it’s so much quicker to apply and is totally summer approved! Are you ready to learn “How to Wear Makeup with Face Mask” with these life changing MASK-PROOF natural makeup products for oily skin? (phew!) Here we go!
How to Wear Makeup with a Face Mask
1) Primer – Hard Candy Hydrating 12 hour Makeup Grip & Elf Matte Putty Primer
For the longest time, I’ve been a total believer in primer. I feel like primer is just that extra step in your makeup routine that targets makeup concerns and helps to really make the final product last as long as possible. Since I’m wearing a mask and constantly taking it off and putting it back on, I knew I needed a primer with ultimate gripping power.
Thus, I’ve found the perfect primer cocktail! I recently picked up the Hard Candy hydrating primer at my local Wal-Mart and it really has me shook. The primer has a similar jelly texture to the famous Milk Hydrogrip primer and it honestly works just as good, if not better! I first apply the Hard Candy primer, let it dry, and then I apply my all time favorite Elf matte putty primer on the areas where I usually get the most oiliness throughout the day; my cheeks, around my nose, and my forehead. This step is crucial in answering the question of the day; “How to Wear Makeup with Face Mask?”
2) Foundation – Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
I honestly can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve been pretty comfortable lately with a light coverage foundation. I feel like it looks super natural and just feels more comfortable to wear all day during the summer. Plus, it really helps the whole mask situation if your foundation isn’t too full coverage. When I was looking for what light coverage foundation-type product to use, I noticed the Maybelline BB Cream in my drawer and a light bulb went off in my head!
After trying out the BB cream for the first time in a while, I have been obsessed and I just can’t stop using it! This product gives just enough coverage to even out my skin, looks very natural, and it feels super lightweight that sometimes I even forget I’m wearing foundation.
3) Setting Powder – Wet n Wild Photofocus Loose Setting Powder
After I apply any type of foundation, either full coverage or super light, I just NEED to set it so that I can ensure that it stays in place all day. To set my face, I pretty much use any setting powder that I’m loving at the moment. Lately, I’ve been using the Wet n Wild loose powder and it’s just magical! It sets my makeup in place, helps it last throughout the day, and I feel like it gives my skin an airbrushed finish as well.
4) Setting Spray – Milani Make it Last Setting Spray
From all of the steps in this long-lasting mask-proof routine, I feel like this one is the true absolute MUST! Even though setting spray is usually used at the end of the makeup routine, I found that using it after I apply my setting powder and base routine really makes my makeup just sink in and LAST! Whenever I apply the spray, I really saturate my whole skin so that it really has a chance to work. Trust me, this step has been magical and it truly helps to make your makeup last through masks, heat; all of it! The secret to “How to Wear Makeup with Face Mask.”
5) Bronzer – Physician’s formula Butter Bronzer
The remaining steps in my routine and answering “How to Wear Makeup with Face Mask” are pretty basic and are what I use on the day to day; regardless if I’m wearing full glam or natural makeup. The Physicians Formula butter bronzer is so amazing because it is the perfect tone to add some warmth to your skin, and it never really looks heavy! During the summer, I definitely am guilty of over-bronzing because I just love a good sun-kissed makeup look.
6) Blush – Sephora Collection Trio Face Palette
For the longest time, I have been honestly OBSESSED with blush. Peach blush, pink blush, bronze-y blush; literally any kind of blush is good with me! A few months ago when I was Sephora, as I was about to check out, I spotted a blush palette from the corner of my eye and I just KNEW I had to have it! Ever since I got this blush, it’s been my go-to every day; it’s super natural, warm, blendable, long-lasting, and just plain old GORGEOUS!!
7) Highlighter – Maybelline Master Chrome
On of my favorite highlighters lately has been the Maybelline Master Chrome highlight in Rose Gold. This highlighter is absolutely STUNNING! Although I have so many different highlighters in my collection, I have seriously been reaching for this one every single time I do my makeup. This highlighter has everything you would want in a product; it can be worn either to be subtle or blinding, lasts a very long time, and is not glittery whatsoever. It’s so gorgeous and I’m honestly a little bit upset that I only decided to pick this gem up at the drugstore only a few months ago!!
How to Wear Makeup with Face Mask: Final Touches
Once I’m done with my makeup, I apply some mascara and I’m ready to go! Surprisingly, with this routine, I don’t even have to set it at the end because it already lasts AMAZINGLY in the Florida heat AND with a mask on; such a game changer!!
